Chapel Hill Middle School's Right to Know

August 14, 2015

Dear Parent or Guardian,

The DeKalb County School District is dedicated to the success of every student. It is our contention that nothing is more important to your child’s education at school than having a well prepared and “highly qualified” teacher. The district is committed to providing quality instruction for all students and has worked diligently to recruit, hire, and retain the most talented teachers in the nation. In spite of careful planning, a shortage of “highly qualified” teachers remains eminent.

The Elementary & Secondary Education Act (ESEA), formerly known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB) legislation focuses on improving teaching and learning for all children. An important component of ESEA legislation also requires school districts to notify parents when a child has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks during a school year by a substitute teacher.

Please be assured that we are dedicated to meeting the educational needs of our students and will remain diligent in our efforts to secure a “highly qualified” teacher. If you have additional questions or concerns about your child’s educational progress or substitute teacher, you may come to my office at Chapel Hill Middle School; call me immediately at 678.676.8502 or email me at Lisa_M_McGhee. For additional information regarding the federal “highly qualified” teacher requirements and Georgia policies, please visit the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website at www.gapsc.com.

Sincerely,

Lisa M. McGhee
